Friday in Osaka

It’s about 7 PM, and I’ve ventured out again, looking for ramen, and I’ve found some in another one of those covered shopping streets near my hotel; they seem to be everywhere. The food here is remarkably inexpensive. The bowl of ramen is 860 yen, which is about $5.60 US; I estimate it couldn’t be had back home for less than $13. I’m getting pretty sick of paying $15 for 3 indifferent chicken wings in Portsmouth and beer for $8 a mug. I think the local restaurants charge it because they can get away with it. On the other hand, I definitely find the entire staff yelling “Irasshaimase” every time someone walks in a bit unnerving. I got something that has a broth made of simmered chicken bones and scallops, and it’s really good.
